Day Seven: Motown, Rest, Retrospect

I listened to the song I posted and found tons of things I should change, but that is the joy of the blogrimage! I can't work on that anymore, the week is over! I do want to post the lyrics from the song though:

You know I love the Law, and the prophets they don't scare me!
Cuz I know every word that's written in these pages.
That gilded edge cuts straight down all my enemies.
You know I got the right words, and I got the right doctrine!
I've read all the books, and speak the language that they're talkin'
But from afar off, I hear a whisper say:

What good is righteousness if it's all just your own?
What good is peace if you won't answer your phone?
What good is love if you're scared into it, to fall?
It's all for naught until ya do!

I wrote the verse lyrics in my car on Saturday morning after I made the decision to scrap the original melody and lyrics. The message that I wanted to get at, and will once I write more, is love > knowledge. Especially in how we relate to God, and we can't just love His Words, but we must move our hearts to love the entirety of Him, even the scary, confusing, and offending parts. I am happy with how the lyrics came out, but the song in general needs more time, and a gospel choir breakdown! But that's for another time.

This week I am going to take a more stripped down approach. The Motown experiment was tons of fun, but instrumentally tiring. So I am going to take some advise from the Boss, and focus on the song rather then the recording tricks:

I love that song, and that album! It is from Nebraska. Which is a bunch of Bruce's home demos. So this week I am gonna get a little folky and take a break from the production side to focus on the songs. And I couldn't resist posting a clip from the hilarious folk mockumentary "A Mighty Wind":

Great lyrics man. I'm stoked for upcoming songs and tricks. The Boss. What a stud.
