When I was in middle school my brother returned from college with an interesting looking album that I snatched from his room and started listening to continuously. This album was Rich Mullin's posthumously released: The Jesus Record. I remember thinking how simple yet powerful the first disc of the album was, and being blow away how I had never heard anything like it before. Now I must remind you: this was me in middle school when all I listened to radio, Jars of Clay, and DC Talk. The story of the album is the first disc consists of 9 rough demos Mullins recorded for the album in an abandoned church on September 10, 1997, nine days before his death. And the second disc is Rich's Ragamuffin Band and others (including the cardboard cutout in the picture) reworking the songs on the first disc. Here is a clip of Rich live:
I started recording a song tonight, and I am gonna keep it simple this week. And for my inspiration, there are many instances where demos end up being the album, and that is what I will be sharing with you all this week.
we were listening to Journey at work today and all the people were singing along and they were our age! I was thinking where was I when I could have been listening to this and then I remembered my parents only allowed DC TALK and Jars Of Clay
