Day Ten: The Creek Drank What!?

As the story goes, someone with pull at Sub-Pop Records came across a free-CD sampler from a small music magazine featuring one of Sam Beam’s songs. In un-characteristic music exec fashion, the guy fell instantly in love with Beam’s stripped down, lyrically compelling, Southern-folk flavored sound. Beam was soon tracked down in Florida (where he fittingly teaches cinematography at some unnamed university) and offered a record deal. After signing across the dotted line with one of the last great independent labels, Beam dutifully handed over two album’s worth of self-recorded songs.

Rather than bring him into the studio to slick up his production, Sub-Pop wisely decided not to mess with flawed perfection, understanding that when it comes to intimate atmosphere, there’s no place like home. Compiling the best songs from these home demos, "The Creek Drank The Cradle" features an unadulterated low-fidelity sound steeped in all the glories of four-track tape hiss, ambient room tones, and dust-spiked beams of natural light. - Taken from MustHear.com

If that doesn't make you wanna go grab a 4-track recorder right now, listen to the album and see if you don't find yourself on ebay before the album finishes!

Today I laid down some a harmony and harmonica on the track, it is turning out to be a pretty charming song. Here is the lyrics so far:

verse:

Coming again, will the Son of Man find faith in all the earth?
I believe He'll find it coming out of all it's corners
Find it in the most unlikely places, like deep down in the orphan's heart,
But I sincerely fear for me and my brothers
Cuz' our whole lives we've been fed with a silver spoon
learning to appreciate our Daddy for the things that He do
Not for who He is, or has done, but for the blessings He give
and that doesn't touch, the way that I live

Chorus
Please come on children run into the arms of our Father
There's no time to stop to tie your shoes
He doesn't care what you've got hidden deep down in your pockets
Doesn't care, but oh how he cares for you

That's the first draft of the lyrics, I am hoping to write another verse tomorrow, we shall see.

Hey Josh,

Great lyrics. It's so fun to see this journey, & I pray your heart comes to life & finds the Father in a real way through it.

Keep up the awesome work.
